C3/CCC Prayer Transcript for September 2, 2007
By Bob Kleinheksel

God within and beyond -part of our very being and the makeup of all creation- we come hoping to reside more closely and more intimately with who we really are and who our brothers and sisters are. We arrive here under stress with minds pre-occupied; we gather with deep emotions over loved-ones lost - or waning in final earthly days; we join with new resolve and hope over new beginnings and schedules. We gather as a community of family and friends to continue affirming the meaning and beauty of life and living - to be open to new purpose and possibilities - to see how our stories affect each other - and to decide upon the kind of future we wish to create. May we sense even now the strength in community - the interconnection we have with each other - the intimate web we share with all things and with all people.

Shortening days, waning vacation times, school supply shopping for the fall flurry....dear children off to close and faraway colleges and kindergarten. All these cause us to pause - to affirm that now is the time and this is the place to say and do while we have opportunity....for death is ready to teach us its lessons about life and love. All of us now open our thoughts and hearts anew to the challenge of living and being human - to look at what is essential for deep and lasting satisfaction and meaning. May we be guided and inspired to each other. May we continue to be co-companions, journey -mates along the way with and for each other. May we give and take in ways that affirm life, that create a new alternative for how we regard our earthly journey and those we meet along the way.

So many here living with and through such difficult dramas. Anger, anguish, sadness and emptiness. Loss of life, long-term hospitalizations, financial burdens, relationship problems, the deepest emotions over the heights and depths of our humanness. Such a full slate of life issues and dilemmas. In our silence now we decide again how we receive care from others or how we might administer care to those needing a note, a phone call, a smile, an embrace, our tears, our laughter and sense of humor - our presence, our time (silence). This community rumbles again with new joy, new beginnings and new heartaches.

The horizons are before us. We go with confidence, also with hesitation. May we go trusting each other, Life itself and the unfolding universe which invites us to make fresh tracks, to think new thoughts, to do justice, live out kindness and to walk humbly. We gather here, we sing, pray and wonder in honor of Jesus and other sages and saviors; we honor the pulsing planet and the life-force within and around all; we honor each other - our beautiful brothers and sisters along the way. Amen.
