Peace be unto you. And peace be upon and within me. This is another time to reside safely in the context of community; another time to contemplate both the profound and mundane things of our lives. All things. All ideas, fears, challenges, joys from Sunday to Saturday. Individually and collectively we let go of anger and anything else that may get in the way of love’s language and ways. Now, let love creep over us, within, throughout. Breath it in now, people of many ways and traditions – let it bubble up from where it already is. May it be that our love and religion be from head to toe, from morning till evening and in all seasons. May it also be that our care and consciousness extend from dawn to dawn – that our footsteps be always gentle upon the face of this spinning orb so wishing our respect and care. On this day of spring emergence, when geese, ducks and seagulls rule the water and skies and as all things leap into new life, may we be open to polishing the already strong connection we have with each other and with all things. We are one.
A mother duck sits on eggs amidst the recently spread red-colored mulch. Shielding the un-hatched miracles from cool rains, she carries out ancient instincts. So much at stake; such risk and possibility. What benefits me aids these vulnerable creatures; what hurts me minutely disrupts the balance she seeks to live and thrive. What a web we weave – either one filled with illusions of separateness or that of impacting and life-giving intimacy. Which would we choose to believe and promote?
In this earth season and celebrating green and growth in community, we remember many comprising this place. Many burdened and tired: We remember those who have lost one loved; those recovering from and anticipating procedures, newly adoptive parents. So many tough and joy-filled scenes playing out. We remember; we include in our spheres of influence with prayer, meditation, goodwill and extended care. Might we soften our gaze upon ourselves and our fellow beings, naming them, recognizing them, loving them…seeing them beautiful in their grit and grace.
We meditate upon the following words. May they take us toward greater appreciation of and contemplation about this earth we share and enjoy: Silence on words printed in bulletin. Amen.
