As we gather here this morning, let us take a few moments to reflect on the journeys we are individually on and what has brought us here this morning.
As you sit comfortably with your feet firmly on the floor allow yourself to sink deeply into the seat, feel the full support of the pew and be reminded of all that supports your existence.
This community welcomes you, accepts you, and supports you as you are in this moment.
Some of us come here this morning full of anxiety and worry. We are consumed with fear of the future, unsettled by not knowing what tomorrow may bring. The uncertainty of the markets threaten our financial security… The shaky economy brings fears of job loss… Some of us face health worries and concerns, others are wrapped in worry over the situations of our loved ones. At times we are so consumed with these fears we need the simple reminder to breathe in and out.
And so some of us come, this morning, to sit and be supported, and to just breathe.
Some of us come here this morning full of hope and optimism for the future. We are energized by the shifts of power and resources and ideas happening in the world. We are enlivened at the opportunity to rediscover our selves, our passions, our relationships. Some of us are facing new chapters in our lives with great excitement and this hope carries us so high it is as though we are floating above the cares of the world. At times we can be so high we too need to be reminded to be grounded and to breathe in and out.
And so some of us come, this morning, to sit and to connect and to just breathe.
It is to through our breath, and through our gathering in community that we are reminded that the same well from which our hope rises, was at one time filled with our fears.
"When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." (Kahlil Gibran)
Our joys and our sorrows are an inseparable expression of the human journey.
Today along with millions of others around the world we remember the story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem- a story rich with symbolism reminding us to take time out to honor the journey. It is in this moment when we gather that our individual journeys cross. Do not judge your place on the path comparing yourself to others simply honor yourself today.
As we share this moment of sitting together, may we be inspired to honor our unique path, empowered to share it truthfully, and enlivened to boldly take the next step forward
