Being Extraordinary Capital Campaign

VIDEO:

What is the purpose of the Being Extraordinary Capital Campaign?

The purpose of the campaign is to eliminate C3/CCC’s current debt in order to free up funds for new and/or expanded programs and activities.

How much debt do we have?

We currently carry a debt load totaling more than $1.3 million. With monthly payments of nearly $10,000, our debt service is close to $120,000/year or nearly 14% of our operations budget.

Where did the debt come from?

This debt has accumulated over the last several decades, and is a result of capital finance costs for buildings, and operational cash flow issues during financially tenuous times.

How long do we expect it to take to pay off the debt?

Our goal is to eliminate this debt over three years through donor commitments above and beyond their normal C3/CCC giving experience. Funds raised through the three-year capital campaign will be “restricted” to debt payment, and will be accounted for separately from operations accounts held by our financial institution. Third party financial oversight and Operations Council management will ensure that debt payment funds will not be intermingled with operation monies.

Will we ask for capital campaign funds in the second and third year of the campaign?

No, this is the only time people will be asked to make a commitment.

Why is there a need for this campaign?

This debt burden is impeding our ability to create new programs and reach out to others who seek our inclusive, progressive theology. Until this weight is lifted, our budgeting process will continue to be locked in a scarcity mentality rather than one of creative innovation that allows us to ‘be the change we wish to see in the world’.

What will we do with the money that now goes toward debt payment once our loans are paid off?

No decisions have been made about how additional funds will be used. Some have suggested developing new diversity initiatives, creating an interfaith chapel, working for environmental concerns specific to West Michigan, expanding our speaker series, or becoming the premier center for Progressive Christian resources. With endless opportunities, we as a community will decide together.

How can I give?
